Matt’s tip

“All you need to set up a tabletop s’mores bar is some cans of Sterno ‘canned heat’ chafing gel (ensure you get the food-safe ethanol gel, not methanol, links below), a planter / pot / bucket to house the fuels cans, and some decorative stones to dress and hold in place.

Chafing gel is designed to be use indoors, so is perfectly safe. Just take the usual precautions you would with any naked flame.

I’d suggest using a rectangular planter and several cans of fuel so that more people will be able to melt their s’mores at the same time.

Also, look for one that’s slightly taller than the fuel cans so that you can bury them inside and surround them comfortably with decorative stones.

Remember, if you’re going to use bamboo skewers to melt the marshmallows, you want to soak them in water beforehand to prevent them catching fire. Alternatively, pick up some wood handle metal roasting sticks.
