Custom Drinks Stirrers

the idea

Give even the simplest of party drinks a stylish and professional look with these customized drinks stirrers personalized with a name, age, occasion, or phrase.

the how

  • Customization. Choose from a name, initials, an age or number, a date, or a short phrase.
  • Pick a font and color; some sellers also let you choose the layout (text across the top only, or split top and bottom) and the stirrer’s shape — a plain stick, a round disc, or a custom cut-out silhouette of the wording itself.
  • Character limits vary a lot by seller — some cap you at just a couple of words, others give you room for a full phrase.
  • Materials & finish. Mostly acrylic — mirror gold, mirror silver, mirror rose gold, clear, frosted, and dozens of solid colors. All reusable and food-safe.
  • Sizes. Roughly 5 to 7.5 inches, with a few sellers sizing to the glass: shorter for champagne or shot glasses, longer for tall cocktails or wine glasses.
  • Quantities. Sets start small and run into the hundreds, with the price per stirrer dropping the more you order.
  • Lead times. Production takes 1 to 3 business days. Standard shipping adds roughly a week on top. I recommend ordering 2 to 3 weeks out to guarantee delivery in time.

the why

WHY This Idea?

  • First impression; the welcome drink is one of the first things guests experience, and a personal touch there brands the occasion and gives it a professional feel.
  • Stylish; makes drinks look styled and polished.
  • Easy; spares you messing around with fiddly garnishes, sugared rims, and fruit slices and adds a more personal touch.
  • Humor; gives you the opportunity to inject some personality or wit with a short creative phrase e.g. “Bring it On!” (see Matt’s Tip below for more).
  • Versatile; can be used to give drinks an elegant, decorative finish with a name and/or occasion, or to set the tone with a lighthearted phrase e.g. “Not Dead Yet”.
  • Talking point; clever little details and personal touches create talking points, buzz, and atmosphere.
  • Photo-worthy; the kind of detail that guests photograph, share and remember.

the why

Why Your Party Drinks Deserve More Attention

  • Always in hand; guests hold a drink for most of the party, so it’s one of the more visible and easily overlooked opportunities to make an impression.
  • Presentation over complexity; thoughtful presentation and a creative twist on a simple drink is often more memorable than an elaborate cocktail that most guests won’t appreciate.
  • Attention to detail; it’s the clever little details — not the drink itself — that guests photograph, share, and remember.
  • Budget-smart; spend a little more to make the first drink memorable, then you can ease into simpler presentation and cheaper pours for the rest of the evening.

ADVICE FROM A PRO

Matt’s tip

Matt James professional event planner

“Place a stirrer into every glass before guests arrive so the drink station looks finished from the first pour, rather than leaving a pile of them on the bar for guests to add themselves – which they might miss.

Simple name and/or occasion designs work well for weddings or anniversaries, where they give drinks a more elegant look, but for other occasions I think it’s best to include a phrase that adds some personality. Eg “Too Late to Die Young” for a milestone birthday or “Educated AF” for a graduation. Check out my full list of creative occasion phrases here for more ideas.

Rather than use the same design across all stirrers, I’d recommend placing three or four smaller orders so you can have a number of different phrases spread over all your drinks, which will act as ice-breakers and conversation-starters when guests realize there are different phrases to discover.

Character limits vary a lot between sellers, so if you want to use a phrase, choose your style of stirrer accordingly and check the listing. Stirrers that are disc or star shaped, where the text is etched on, typically have more space but it’s worth checking the cut-out silhouette style too as some print over two lines.

These don’t have to be used to name the guest of honor or occasion. I’ve seen the same idea used to identify the name of a signature drink across a batch of glasses. Check out my Self-Service Welcome Drink Bar post for more on setting one up.

These are great to combine with edible drinks glitter, which can settle in the glass, so having a stirrer already in the glass means guests can give it a swirl themselves without you doing the rounds. Check out my Edible Drinks Glitter post for more on that.”
