ADVICE FROM A PRO
Matt’s tip
“While it might seem tempting to pad-out your dessert table with a candy buffet, I can tell you now that there are ALWAYS massive amount of these candy-filled jars left over at events (some are virtually untouched). Sadly, compared to the other delicious treats on offer, candy is just not very popular.
That’s not say you shouldn’t use them on your dessert table at all. In fact, jars of candy / treats by the color always look fantastic and can add a really stylish and well-designed look to your dessert table. The key though, is to think of them as decoration and props, rather than food meant to feed people; so scale back on the quantities.
Another way to approach it is to fill the jars with some candy by the color, but to also fill some of the jars with other bite-size treats in the same color / palette. This might include French macarons, cake truffles, brownie bites, gourmet marshmallows, gourmet fudge, gourmet lollipops, chocolate dipped strawberries, gourmet sweet popcorn, or gourmet savory popcorn.
You can also make these more interesting by filling them with more unusual treats, such as boozy marshmallows, boozy fudge, boozy lollipops, freeze-dried candy, freeze-dried ice cream, themed macarons, or boozy popcorn, to encourage guests to explore
Alternatively, include a few personalized treats, such as personalized M&M’s, custom photo marshmallows, custom photo macarons, personalized macarons, orโfor a milestone birthday / anniversaryโretro candy from a particular decade.
Remember, these apothecary jars look much more stylish when you fill them with one type of treat per jar.
Finally, if your party is going on late, has dancing, or guests are just going to be drinking for several hours, another way to use apothecary jars is to fill them with inexpensive booze-absorbing treats, such as popcorn, nuts, pretzels, etc, and set them up near the bar / dancefloor as a late night snack to help sober guests up and prevent things getting too messy!”
