Edible Drinks Glitter

the idea

Save time by styling wine, champagne, or cocktails with a pinch of edible drinks glitter instead of messing around with fiddly garnishes and sugared rims.

the how

  • Choose from dozens of colors: gold, silver, pink, purple, blue, and iridescent blends among them.
  • Pick a color to match your theme or signature drink. Gold and silver are safe choices that work well for most occasions.
  • Choose a jar size to match the event, from small 4-gram jars up to bulk options — one small jar alone covers 10 or more drinks.
  • Flip open the cap, add a small pinch, and stir. It’s flavorless and doesn’t add any texture.
  • Shows up best in clear drinks: wine, champagne, prosecco, and clear cocktails or mocktails. In darker or creamier drinks, the color still tints the liquid, but the sparkle won’t be as visible.

the why

WHY This Idea?

  • Creative twist; adds an unexpected shimmer to familiar drinks, with minimal effort involved.
  • Easy; no bartending skills or elaborate recipes, just a pinch stirred in right before serving.
  • Stylish; elevates something as familiar as a glass of wine or a simple cocktail with one small twist.
  • Photo-worthy; people love to photograph and share drinks that look eye-catching and unusual.
  • Talking point; unusual drinks act as conversation starters, which in turn creates buzz and atmosphere.
  • First impression; the welcome drink is one of the first things guests experience, and a sparkle in the glass will grab people’s attention right from the start.
  • Inexpensive; a cost-effective idea that won’t blow your budget.

the why

Why Your Party Drinks Deserve More Attention

  • Always in hand; guests hold a drink for most of the party, so it’s one of the more visible and easily overlooked opportunities to make an impression.
  • Presentation over complexity; thoughtful presentation and a creative twist on a simple drink is often more memorable than an elaborate cocktail most guests won’t appreciate.
  • Attention to detail; it’s the clever little details — not the drink itself — that guests photograph, share, and remember.
  • Budget-smart; spend a little more to make the first drink memorable, then ease into simpler, cheaper pours for the rest of the evening.

ADVICE FROM A PRO

Matt’s tip

Matt James professional event planner

“Personally, I think the subtler colors work best: gold, silver, rose gold, and pink, especially in champagne or prosecco. These give the drinks a more tasteful, classic look. Brighter or more lurid colors tend to give the drinks an artificial or unnatural look. It’s the same reason blue cocktails never seem all that appealing: blue isn’t a color that occurs naturally in food or drink.

Glittery drinks are a bit of fun, but you still want them to look tasteful, not tacky.

Keep it to one or two colors across the whole bar rather than a different shade in every drink, or the effect starts to look chaotic instead of intentional.

For the best effect, stir it into the base spirit before topping up with a mixer, rather than dropping it straight into a full glass. It disperses more evenly that way, and a single small jar goes further across a whole batch of drinks rather than getting used up on one glass at a time.

The glitter does settle after a few minutes, so give it a final stir right before serving. Adding a drink stirrer to the glass makes it easy for guests to give it another swirl themselves. Check out my other post about custom drink stirrers for some ideas.

Note that most edible drink glitters are vegan, gluten-free, and kosher or halal certified, but it’s worth confirming with whichever brand you buy if any guests have dietary restrictions, since formulations vary between sellers.”
