Balloon Invitations

the idea

Add a playful twist to your invitations by printing the information on a balloon so guests have to blow it up to read the details.

the how

  • Seller type. Choose between:
  • International sellers; cheaper but take much longer.
  • Domestic sellers; more expensive, but quicker.
  • Sizes. Balloons run from around 9 inches up to 36 inches — a bigger balloon leaves more space for text.
  • Colors. Choose from a wide range of balloon colors, including metallics. Ink color is limited to a handful of standard options.
  • Personalization. Submit your wording when you order. The seller designs the balloon and if requested sends you a digital proof to approve before anything goes to print.
  • Quantities. Minimum order size is typically around 20–25 balloons.
  • Lead time.
  • Domestic sellers: Allow a week to ten days with standard shipping.
  • International sellers: Proof 1–2 days, Production 3–5 days, Shipping 15–35 days.

the why

WHY This Idea?

  • Instantly Recognizable; does anything say party better than a balloon?
  • Engagement; guests have to blow the balloon up themselves before they can read the details, creating a fun interactive moment
  • No theme needed; allows you to send an unusual and attention-grabbing invitation even when your party doesn’t have a theme.
  • Original; not something most of your guests will have received as an invitation before.
  • Stands out; hard to miss among all the bills and junk mail.
  • Playful; guaranteed to bring a smile to guests’ faces.

the why

Why Your Invitations Need to Be Personal, Creative, or Unusual

  • Signals effort; if you’re expecting guests to give up an evening, arrange a babysitter, buy a gift, and travel across town to celebrate with you — your invitation needs to say ‘this is a special occasion’.
  • Strong first impression; if the invitation isn’t exciting, people assume the event won’t be — so it needs to stand out, grab their attention, and pique their curiosity.
  • Excites; generic or clichéd invitations — glitter and cocktails for women, whiskey and beer for men — are unoriginal, uninspiring, and impersonal. These aren’t.
  • Sets the tone; it’s guests’ first insight into what type of party it will be, so it needs to give them a sense of the theme, style, or tone of the event.
  • Encourages RSVPs; invitations sell the event, so they need to excite and inspire people enough that they actually want to attend — rather than just come because they feel obliged to.
  • Talking point; creative twists, personal touches, and clever little details make a party memorable.

ADVICE FROM A PRO

Matt’s tip

Matt James professional event planner

“Because the print area on these balloons is pretty compact, keep your wording concise and stick to the essentials — name, occasion, date, time, location, and how to RSVP — otherwise longer sentences might end up being printed too small and harder to read.

I think a nice way to present these is to hand-write or print a custom message, such as ‘please inflate and save the date’ or just ‘inflate me’, onto a decorative tag (see links below) and tie it on with ribbon. Then, send them out in small gift boxes (see links below) filled with confetti or tissue paper. Or for a really fun twist, use this Custom Face Confetti with the guest of honor’s photo.

Remember to ask for a digital proof before anything goes to print, and pay attention to any text that might look small. Most sellers will gladly send you one, though with some you have to ask for it rather than it arriving automatically.

Also, be sure to order more than you need. Latex balloons occasionally have small defects, so it’s best to have some spares.
