Why Your Invitations Need to Be Personal, Creative, or Unusual

ADVICE FROM A PRO
Matt’s tip

“As I say on my Invitations page, I’d strongly advise choosing a printed invitation over a digital one — nowadays it’s rare to receive anything personal in the mail, so when a beautiful, hand-addressed envelope unexpectedly lands in your mailbox, it instantly feels special.
That said, I know a physical invitation isn’t always practical, and a video invitation still makes more of an effort than a plain group text or a generic e-vite, so it’s a solid choice if you just want something quick and inexpensive.
You can still have a bit of fun with it by customizing it with a cute, funny, or embarrassing old photo of the guest(s) of honor to make guests smile — such as a baby photo for a milestone birthday or graduation, or an old wedding pic for an anniversary.
If you’re confident using Canva, the self-edit template option (which you can use with a free account) works out cheaper than the seller-personalized version.
If you’re on an iPhone, ask whether the seller can text the finished video to you directly — sending a video by regular text message can sometimes compress it and lower the quality, and a couple of sellers offer a small add-on to generate a weblink instead, which avoids this altogether.
