the how

  • Customization. Order a single figure, a matching couple, or a keychain-size mini version, from around 5 to 12 inches tall (7 inches is the most popular). Most sellers can also add a short name or caption on the base.
  • Head style. Choose a bobbling head or a fixed head. Fixed suits long hairstyles or hats better, since a bobbing motion can distort or dislodge them.
  • Submit your photos. Send a clear, front-facing photo along with a reference photo of the outfit, pose, or hobby gear you want copied, then pick skin, eye, and hair color from the seller’s color chart.
  • Approval. Most sellers send a photo of the finished head for you to approve before the rest gets made, and the body is usually locked in once you sign off, so check it over closely.
  • Lead time. 3 to 7 business days to make. 1 to 2 weeks to ship, faster with a rush order.
  • Materials. Hand-sculpted and hand-painted in polymer clay, then kiln-baked so the color won’t fade or rub off. Keep it dry and out of direct sun and it’ll last indefinitely.
  • Display. Arrives ready to stand on its own base, no assembly needed. Works just as well on a desk or shelf as it does as a cake topper.

Similarly, distinctive clothing really helps too. A team jersey, a work uniform, a band tee, or hobby gear like a fishing rod or golf clubs all help the sculptor land on a likeness that’s instantly recognizable.
