Custom Letter Blanket

the idea

Put into words things you feel but seldom say, and have it turned into a soft cotton blanket they can wrap themselves in or use as a bedspread they’ll see every day.

the how

  • Personalization method.
  • Type your letter and choose a font that renders it in realistic handwriting or a typewriter style,
  • or write it yourself on a template and submit a photo so your actual handwriting appears on the blanket.
  • Design. A classic notebook-paper look with lined margins, or an air-mail postmark design with a customizable “stamp” (date, city, state).
  • Size.
  • Small (about 37″ x 52″) works as a chair throw or kids’ blanket.
  • Medium (about 50″ x 60″), the most popular, is sized for a couch.
  • Large (about 60″ x 80″) fits a queen bed top or wraps a couple of people at once.
  • Material. 100% cotton, machine washable on cold, tumble dry low.
  • Preview. The font option comes with a digital preview to approve before production. The handwritten-template option skips the preview and is made exactly as submitted.
  • Writing rules. Any language works, but the words have to be your own; sellers can’t reproduce copyrighted material like song lyrics or published poems.
  • Lead time. 1 to 2 weeks once your letter is submitted and, if applicable, approved. No rush orders.

the why

WHY This Idea?

  • Thoughtful; shows that real thought has gone into creating something just for them.
  • Touching; gives you the chance to put into words things you might often think, but rarely say.
  • Your own words; unlike most personalized gifts that just add a name or date, this one is written entirely by you, start to finish.
  • Extraordinary; people rarely write personal letters nowadays which makes this idea so special.
  • Comforting; allows you to be there, with encouraging words or positive thoughts, when you can’t be there in person.
  • Keepsake; something they’ll keep and revisit, not look at once and put in a drawer.
  • Feel good; makes the guest of honor feel loved, appreciated, and good about themselves.
  • Emotional; people remember how a gift made them feel, not what it cost.
  • Connection; a physical reminder of the relationship itself, so they think of you every time they wrap up in it.
  • Memorable; thoughtful ideas are the ones people remember and treasure.

the why

Why Gifts Should Be One of Three Things

  • Meaningful and sentimental; a gift that celebrates the person or your relationship with them creates a real emotional connection that people remember.
  • Quirky and unexpected; something unusual, unique, or playful, tied to their interests or sense of humor — the kind that gets a laugh, but is more than a cheap gag gift.
  • Indulgent; a treat, an experience, or a luxury you know they’d love but would never buy for themselves, that they can enjoy guilt-free.

ADVICE FROM A PRO

Matt’s tip

Matt James professional event planner

“The ‘letter’ doesn’t have to be one flowing paragraph in the traditional sense. A numbered list of reasons you love someone, celebrating their admirable qualities, characteristics, personality traits, or even their weird little habits and obsessions, is often easier to write than a single narrative, and reads just as personal.

This works best when there’s a mix of the profound, e.g. ‘You always believe in me more than I do myself’, the lighthearted, e.g. ‘That you tell Starbucks baristas your name is Beyoncé’, and the sentimental, e.g. ‘You’ve seen me at my worst and you still love me’.

Alternatively, use the letter to recount your favorite memories of them, whether sentimental or humorous, perhaps recalling a funny story about how you first met or something that really cemented your friendship; the more nostalgic the better.
