ADVICE FROM A PRO
Matt’s tip

“Slide a charm onto every glass before you start pouring, rather than leaving a bowl of them out for guests to fit themselves. Otherwise, half of them will end up sitting there unused.
Simple name, date, and occasion designs work well for weddings and anniversaries, where they give the drinks a more elegant look, but for other occasions I think it’s best to include a phrase that adds some personality, e.g. “Still Got It” for a milestone birthday or “License to Chill” for a retirement. Check out my full list of creative occasion phrases here for more ideas.
If you opt for a phrase, rather than use the same one across all charms, I’d recommend placing three or four smaller orders so you can have a number of different phrases spread over all your drinks, which will act as ice-breakers and conversation-starters when guests realize there are different phrases to discover.
These don’t have to be used to name the guest of honor or occasion. I’ve seen the same idea used to identify the names of signature drinks across a batch of glasses. Check out my Self-Service Welcome Drink Bar post for more on setting one up.
Alternatively if you’re using them as escort cards, just remember you’ll need to lock your final guest list and seating plan down earlier than you might normally to allow time for the charms to be made.
For smaller dinners, you could put one on their glass at each place setting, so guests know where to sit at the table.”
