Text Drinks Toppers

the idea

Give your welcome drinks a professionally-styled, uniform look by personalizing these drinks toppers with custom text, initials, or a short phrase that reflects the occasion.

the how

  • Customization. Choose the wording and layout: a name and the occasion (“Linda’s 30th Birthday”), a bold number like “50,” monogrammed initials and the date for a wedding or anniversary, or a short, creative phrase like “Still Got It.” Pick a font, color, and on some listings an icon add-on like a heart or a graduation cap.
  • Size. Sizes run from 1.5 inches for champagne or shot glasses up to 3 inches for margarita or coupe glasses, with 2 inches for wine, highball, or rocks glasses, and 2.5 inches for martini glasses in between.
  • Process. Printed with edible ink on wafer paper, precut into circles, ready to use straight from the pack.
  • Setup. Add the topper just before the drink is served. These last longer on a foam-topped or fuller-bodied drink than on something thin, like water or soda.
  • Lead times. Production takes 1 to 5 business days depending on the seller. Standard shipping adds 2 to 5 days. Build in some extra time beyond that in case of delays or a reprint.
  • Dietary. Some sellers offer vegan, gluten-free, or kosher versions.

the why

WHY This Idea?

  • First impression; a row of drinks that all carry the same graphic or text is a striking visual the moment guests walk in — it brands the occasion and gives it a professional feel
  • Simpler to produce; unlike custom photo toppers, where you need a decent picture of the guest of honor to start with, there’s no photo to source or crop here — just choose your wording
  • Stylish; a clean graphic finish gives an ordinary drink a polished, designer look
  • Monogram-ready; initials or a couple’s names look like a small logo, making these a natural fit for wedding or anniversary drinks
  • Adaptable tone; can be as classic as a name, occasion, or monogram, or as playful as “Straight Outta My Thirties”
  • Inexpensive; a cost-effective idea that won’t blow your budget

the why

Why Your Party Drinks Deserve More Attention

  • Ever-present; guests hold a drink for most of the party, so it’s one of the more visible and easily overlooked opportunities to add a personal touch
  • Presentation over complexity; thoughtful presentation — a nice glass, a garnish, a simple styling touch — is often more memorable than an elaborate cocktail most guests won’t appreciate
  • Attention to detail; it’s the clever little details — not the drink itself — that guests photograph, share, and remember
  • Budget-smart; it’s worth spending a little more to make the first drink memorable, then ease into simpler, cheaper pours for the rest of the evening

ADVICE FROM A PRO

Matt’s tip

Matt James professional event planner

“While photo drinks toppers use cute, funny, or embarrassing old photos of the guest of honor to celebrate them in a fun and playful way, these text and graphic toppers create a more designer, professional look for your drinks. They’re also a great alternative when it’s difficult to track down old photos of the guest of honor.

For weddings and anniversaries, initials or a couple’s names read like a monogram on their own, and a small icon alongside — a heart, a pair of leaves, a small floral line — reinforces that logo-like look rather than cluttering it. For something with more personality, get creative instead of just stating the occasion: “Too Late to Die Young” for a milestone birthday, “Married for 9,132 Days” for a 25-year anniversary, “Smarty Pants” for a graduation toast. Keep it to a few words — there isn’t much room on a 1.5-inch topper. Check out my full list of creative occasion phrases here for more ideas.

One practical tip on font: the more wording you’re printing, the plainer the font should be. Initials or a two or three word phrase can carry a script or cursive font fine at this size, but a longer phrase in cursive tends to blur together once it’s shrunk onto a 1.5 to 3 inch topper — save the fancier fonts for the shorter wording.”
